Grandmas & Mothers-in-Law

*** Although being the first commenter typically doesn't bode well for winning contests, in this case that's exactly who random.org selected! Congrats to Barbara H.! And a Happy Valentine's Day too!***

If you are here from 5 Minutes for Books, then welcome! If you are here on your own merit ;) then be sure to check out my review of Building Her House by Nancy Wilson. Both the book, and then this audio Bible study on what it means to be a grandmother and a mother-in-law are published/produced by Canon Press. I'm giving away my audio set of this particular series to one of you lucky winners. See below for details.

Questions to ask yourself before saying that you'd like to win this audio set:

1. Am I a woman with children? If the answer is yes, then the chances of you being able to make good use of this series are very high. I don't think you need to be a grandmother or a mother-in-law to glean from the things that Nancy Wilson has to say. Certainly if you possess either of those titles then you will have the ability to make greater practical application in your own life circumstances. At the same time, there is nothing wrong with preparing for the future and thinking ahead a bit. I listened to this series and my son is only two. I'm a VERY long ways away from grandmotherhood and I'd BETTER be a long, LONG ways away from being a mother-in-law. (A LONG ways away!) All the same, it's fun to "listen in" to find out what the older ladies are saying about that position and time of life. I have expectations and hopes and dreams of my own and the faster I can tailor those dreams to match reality the better in my opinion.

2. Do I want to learn how to be the best daughter, daughter-in-law, wife, grandmother and mother-in-law that I can possibly be? If you do, then there is nothing in this audio Bible study that could possibly hurt you. Nancy Wilson offers practical advice from the scripture on how to approach the new role that older women find themselves in when their children start marrying and producing. Having been in the position of having been a daughter-in-law I found this series helpful in knowing how I can help foster the best possible relationship with my in-laws. I'm in a unique position of having had my mother-in-law pass away a few years back. However, I'm about to gain a new one in her place and I want to be an even BETTER daughter-in-law than I was the first time. I have the chance at improvement and so I listened to what Wilson had to say, not so that I could set expectations for my new mother-in-law, but so that I could learn how I can make the process of making her a part of my family all the easier -- for her! I also listened to it as an education on how I can relate to my son to fully equip him for marriage and how I can plot my course to make future transitions easier. At least in theory. ;) We'll see how I actually do in time, of course, but for now I can try to set my thoughts on the right course!

This really was an excellent series and I highly recommend it.

In order to win a copy, all you have to do is leave a comment. This contest is open to U.S. Residents only and will be open until Friday, February 13th.

I am VERY interested in this since this is the next step in my life with one son getting married this summer. I enjoy Nancy's blog, so I am sure I would enjoy this as well. Though being first doesn't bode well for random drawings. :-)

What a great sounding book. This book will be my next stage ... older kiddos are 25, 21, and 20 with a 10 yo still at home. Thanks for the opportunity.

I would love to win this audio set! I am sure that I would listen myself and then share with my own mother-in-law (and grandmother of my children). We have had our up & downs throughout the years and so I think we would both find this interesting!

please, please, please.... for obvious reasons! I want to be a better MIL than the one i have -- i ahve been trying diligently with my wonderful SIL to make him feel comfortable in our home -- and a better yet-to-be-future grandma.

i had seen this book on the Canon site and really wanted to order it, but had already blown my budget for the time being.

I would extremely interested in this audio set. While I do strive to walk through each relationship with God's help, I am certainly my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law wouldn't mind me do a little extra research into the matter.

I stumbled into your site somehow and though I see the Grandmas & Mothers-in-law giveaway contest is long over, I'd like to know how to get it anyway! We had a brief phase of life just before we launched our two boys and became grandparents quickly thereafter. During that time we mentored a young couple who was newly married, using Douglas Wilson's books. We still have our mothers, and have 4 grandchildren age 3 & under. I want to write my own book someday about my life in the sandwich generation...I sure wish I had read a book or two about being a grandma and a mother-in-law, since that phase of life came close together! But it's never too late to learn, is it?
