Furthermore, Thomas Nelson publishers graciously offered up a copy of this biography to one of our readers at 5 Minutes for Books. If you'd like to (read my review, of course!) and enter to win a copy - CLICK HERE.
This is a newly released biography written by Eric Metaxas. You might recognize his name, as he was the same guy who wrote the biography of William Wilberforce that was turned into a major motion picture (i.e., Amazing Grace.)
Bonhoeffer: A Biography is well-written and completely captivating in a number of ways. As I said, I'll have a lot more to share about it in the very near future but you can catch my quick thoughts today over at 5 Minutes for Books.
There is no way to peace along the way of safety. For peace must be dared, it is itself the great venture and can never be safe. Peace is the opposite of security. To demand guarantees is to want to protect oneself. Peace means giving oneself completely to God's commandment, wanting no security, but in faith and obedience laying the destiny of the nations in the hand of Almighty God, not trying to direct it for selfish purposes. Battles are won, not with weapons, but with God. They are won when the way leads to the cross. - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

I've always been interested in learning more about Bonhoeffer. The cover is awesome! Sounds like a great book, and I'm glad you got to read it.
I researched Bonhoeffer for a paper once in college. I'm off to 5 Minutes for Books to be entered for the contest!
I really like that quote you left. It is a good summary for those people who say Peace Not War.
I look forward to hearing more about your thoughts on the book.
Wow! What a quote. (and I agree with Jennifer, great cover!) I'd like to read this one day.
Metaxas also wrote a great picture book on the life of Squanto. It's wonderful to read with kids around Thanksgiving.
