Reading the Classics Challenge

classics

For any followers of 5 Minutes for Books that were disappointed that they were dropping the Classics Book Challenge - you might be interested in checking out the Reading the Classics Challenge that is being hosted by Butterfly Wishes and Wonderland Dreams. I do have quite the number of classics that I'm purposing to get to this year and so I'm going to jump in on this one too.

You can click on this post to find out more about the challenge. You have through the end of this week to sign up and be eligible to win prizes along the way. This challenge lasts through the end of 2011 so you have plenty of time to read as few or as many classics as your little reading heart desires! You can also cross-read. (My reads for the Jane Austen Reading Challenge will count towards this. And anything by Montgomery counts as well! I double checked.) So I'm already assured success by joining this challenge!

Here are a few on my list that I'm hoping to get to in 2011:

For the Lucy Maud Montgomery Reading Challenge:

Rainbow Valley
Rilla of Ingleside
The Blythes are Quoted

For the Jane Austen Reading Challenge:

Sense and Sensibility

From my bookshelves:

A Tale of Two Cities, by you should know who. (I sigh heavily as I type that but I'm going to read this one in honor of my husband who think it's a fabulous book and that I really ought to give it a go. Even though I may despise Dickens as a general rule.)
The Faerie Queen, by Edmund Spencer (Which has sat unfinished on my bookshelf for far too long.)
The Woman in White, by Wilkie Collins

For my Books Disney Films are Based On personal reading hopes and dreams:

The Sword in the Stone, by T.H. White

And that's all I feel I'd best commit to at the moment. But these are all titles that have been on my radar for some time and I'm looking forward to getting to them!

Oh, thanks for mentioning this! I was very disappointed when the Classic Bookclub disbanded, and I am happy to see this.

Tale of Two Cities is one of my two all-time favorite books ever, the first being Les Miserables. It took me several attempts before I could complete it, but once I did I reread it immediately to see, not what happened, but how Dickens out it together. Hope you enjoy it.

Let me know when you start A Tale of Two Cities and and I'll read it too!

Sounds good!
I need to go through my stack of books and post the titles; it would be interesting to take note of which I read and which I do not get to this year!

Dickens? Really? Although I could see that being a good read while you are recuperating from Baby Girl's arrival. It's not like you'll be going anywhere once she arrives. :)

Barbara H. - Yeah! I thought you, in particular, would be interested.

Sky - Will let you know! That would definitely make it infinitely more enjoyable.

Stephanie's Mommy Brain - Sleepless nights and Dickens?! I do not CRAVE insanity or anything. I was thinking specifically that Dickens would be far removed from baby girl's birth. ;D hahaha!

I really liked A Tale of Two Cities. I've read Woman in White but sadly can't remember much about it! Was it good? I don't know! I'll look forward to your thoughts!
