Don't take this terribly seriously.

Yes. I was going to participate in Read Aloud Thursday today. But then today came and there was no post written. And there is still not a Read Aloud post written, but you can see what others are reading aloud by visiting Amy at Hope is the Word.

If you are overwhelmed by curiosity and just have to know what we are reading, I will tell you, for it is no great secret. It starts with T and ends with R. Which probably doesn't tell you very much but would have won you 10 whole M&M's had you guessed correctly without use of the cover art. (That's a large reward in this household!)

See, the thing is, I would have had a Read Aloud Thursday to post today if it hadn't been for wxrox and the enthusiasm which she exuded (in the comment section) over the idea of my reading Bleak House.

I read her series of comments and decided that I would be a brave little piglet and go ahead and get started with the book. So I did and now I really don't have time to talk because it's a big hilarious! book and I'm really quite distracted. I can't stop snickering and I haven't had time to sit down and create real blog posts. Although I suppose technically this is a real blog post.

In other words, I'menjoyingDickens.

Blogger Amy at Faithful Journey just announced some very exciting news. It's been such a pleasure to read about her latest journey and to see the fruition of it is just plain exciting, that's what! There is much joy and gladness in the land! (For real!)

My "real life friend" - who is an amazing hostess - had a birthday party a week (or so?) ago and invited me to attend. She was reading a much larger biography of Queen Elizabeth II while I was reading this version and decided to make her birthday party into an English Tea. And it was all very fun and enjoyable (in other words, I had a BLAST!). One of the things I wish to make note of is that she served chocolate rose tea. Sound weird? It actually tasted like chocolate and it was so wonderful that I can't stop thinking about it. Because it was chocolate. In a tea cup.

*pause*

Chocolate. In a tea cup.

Take that in for a minute.

You can see the rest of the pictures (including one of me!) of this very fun evening HERE.

Chocolate rose tea.

(While you are over reading her blog, you should check out her review of The Busy Homeschool Mom's Guide to Romance. I'm going to read that book in 10 years or so.)

My friend Sarah over at Library Hospital pointed out THIS SURVEY which is presently being hosted by NPR to discern the Top 100 Best-Ever Teen novels.

You can place a vote for your top 10 favorites. You should go do that, so long as you do not intend to vote for Twilight. If you have any intent to vote for Twilight, let's just pretend I did not provide you with a link to that survey, ok?

In other news, I also made a pinky promise (well, it was a Facebook-made promise which likely compares to a pinky promise, except that I honor all promises that I can no matter where I make them) to read The Man in the Iron Mask alongside the same Sarah of Library Hospital during the month of August.

Then I was thinking I probably wouldn't be able to do that because I'm reading Bleak House and I thought that was just going to crush me. But seeing that I'm buzzing through Bleak House at a happy clip ('laughing all the way, ha! ha! ha!') I will likely find the time after all.

So here's to more good books crammed into a hectic life which needs them!

Happy Thursday to you.

So cool that you are enjoying Dickens! I love *Bleak House.* (Although I think *Our Mutual Friend* edges it out slightly for me.) You should still watch the mini-series.

I'm sorry. I got stuck at the part where you said you were enjoying Dickens. Who are you and what have you done with my friend Carrie?!

DID YOU SAY YOU WERE ENJOYING DICKENS?

Sorry. I will try not to be smug.

YEHEHHESSSS!!! I'm not even masking my smugness, Carrie. But I'm SO proud of you for being a brave little piglet. Which I laughed at a ton by the way.

YES!!!! I am biting my tongue and really really trying to be good and not say I TOLD YOU SO re: Bleak House. It's definitely my favorite of his books. SUCH a good story. Ahem... anyway... Enjoy! (And it's ok to admit it that maybe there are some Dickens you can enjoy).

Yes, you people. Just enjoy yourselves . . .

;D

Well! I'm happy to know you are actually enjoying Dickens! And that inspires me to get into Bleak House sooner rather than later. The size of the book has been a bit daunting.

I read The Man in the Iron Mask some years ago. I thought it kind of depressing, actually. It ended in a much darker way that either of the movie versions I had seen.

Woohoo for enjoying Bleak House!! That's awesome. :D

Chocolate tea?? I love chocolate. I love tea. I have to try chocolate rose tea.

I hope you enjoy Man in the Iron Mask! I was going to pick up the second novel in that series last Thursday but I FORGOT. How could I forget?? I brought home 12 other books, but forgot that one. lol

Dickens AND Dumas!?!
Bleak House is one of my favorites, I look forward to you review!

Find a good translation of Man in the Iron Mask, it makes a HUGE difference.
I've read three different translations of Count of Monte Cristo, they were all vastly different and the oldest was, I was told by a French speaker, the closest to the original text.
