L.M. Montgomery Reading Challenge Conclusion 2013 (& Jan. Book Club)

L. M. Montgomery Reading Challenge

Time to conclude the L.M. Montgomery Reading Challenge for another year. Once again I find parting such sweet sorrow. I always look forward to this challenge. I always feel a bit lost at the conclusion of it. But then again -

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.”
― L.M. Montgomery, The Story Girl

This coming year I shall go on remembering Pat, as I managed to read both Pat of Silver Bush and Mistress Pat. (Both linked to my thoughts.)

I did, however, fail to read two other books I had set out as goals for the month. Part of me wishes I had planned to read stories from Montgomery in their place. But -

“Well, we all make mistakes, dear, so just put it behind you. We should regret our mistakes and learn from them, but never carry them forward into the future with us.”
― L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Avonlea

I hope you had a chance to read something Montgomery wrote this month. If you did and wrote up a post sharing your reading experiences, please leave a link to your review/thoughts in the comment section below. If you didn't write a post but read along with us, please still let us know which titles you enjoyed and what you thought of them in the comment section.

Note: By concluding the LMM Reading Challenge we are also concluding the Reading to Know Book Club January discussion. This month's pick was one title of your choosing by L.M. Montgomery (convenient that!) and so we manage two things at once. Lovely.

Reading to Know - Book Club

We'll kick off February's read tomorrow so stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to hearing about your visit with Montgomery and her characters! Leave a note below for us to visit!

I'll get my thoughts on Emily of New Moon up on my blog as soon as it cooperates! :)

Love the quotes!

http://www.thissimplehome.com/2013/01/pat-of-silver-bush-by-lm-montgomery.html for my thoughts on Pat of Silver Bush. I am currently reading about Pat all grown up in Mistress Pat. She is so sweet! I am certainly enjoying her.

I also watched Anne of GG and listened to the book on audio. Marilla really struck me as a wise woman...and so very kind and loving-in her way in the book this year.

I had hoped to read all three Emily books, but only got through Emily of New Moon. My review of it is here:

Thanks for hosting this once again! I always enjoy it but I really enjoyed exploring some new-to-me LMM territory this time.

Looking forward to February. I liked your Pat reviews. Now I want to read those!

I wanted to read the first two Anne books but only read the first. I started The Golden Road but realized it wasn't the first book in a series. Oops! I hope to read more Anne throughout the year.

Carrie, I'm sorry, but I was pretty harsh in my thoughts on revisiting Anne. I think I wrote the post too soon after finishing the book - if I had let it simmer a bit longer, I would have realized that it's just a book that doesn't bring me any insight, food for thought, humor...it doesn't do anything for me. Here's my post:

We also finished Jane of Lantern Hill as a read aloud this week and once again, I love Jane. I just haven't had time to blog her as a read-aloud. : )

I am fairly new to the world of book blogging (I'm hoping to start up my blog in June). This reading challenge is right up my alley! I love L.M. Montgomery. Is this a challenge that happens every year? Where can I find more information about it? I would love to participate next year!

I'm really looking forward to hopping around and reading everyone's posts! (It might not be until after the weekend, but I'm working on it!)

Julie, would love to have you join in next year. Here is the opening post which tells you a little more about how you can participate:

Also! Here's the link to Emily D.'s post on why she doesn't like Anne (anymore or ever). ;) There's always one!

But I will forgive you, Emily. I will forgive you. ;)

I surprised myself by finishing what I set out to read! Here are my thoughts on Christmas with Anne and The Story Girl:

It sounds like that was a popular title this year! Maybe it will grow on me in time, but I wouldn't rank it as a favorite yet.
