Reading to Know Classic Book Club 2014

Reading to Know - Book Club

You'll note that we've officially stuck "Classic" into the book club title. I asked the other team members what they thought, and everyone agreed that the classics format which we started last year was a pleasant experience and we voted to do it again.

Last year we alternated between children and adult classics. This year will be much the same, with some minor variations to suit the team members' individual life calendars.

And now for the details.

Q: How can you participate?

A: You'll find the reading list for the the 2014 Reading to Know Classics Bookclub below. You can read along with us on any or all of the months. I recognize that some titles might appeal to you more than others. So feel free to pick and choose which months you'd like to participate - or plan to read all of them, if you like! I'll remind you at the beginning of each month which book is being read, and there'll be a wrap-up post at the end of the month which will be posted here at Reading to Know.

Read along with us, write up your own blog posts for each book you read and then you will be invited to link your post(s) which relate to the selected title of the month up at the conclusion of each month.

You can also display our button link for the book club on your own blog using the following HTML code:

A: Here is the list of books selected for the Reading to Know Classics Book Club along with information on who selected what book and which discussion they'll be leading:

January (Adult)- The Blue Castle, by Lucy Maud Montgomery. This month's book club selection is particularly selected to be combined with the Lucy Maud Montgomery Reading Challenge which is hosted each January here at Reading to Know.

That's our list for the year, folks! Lots of easy reads (minus, perhaps, August!) and it should be a very fun year. As I look over the list, I think it's going to be a great year for read alouds. Grab a kid (or another adult) and invite them to participate in your reading life through this classic book club as well.

Looking forward to the FUN!

  4. I have a quite a few BIG reads for the coming year but I will jump in when I can. I may start the year off again with Montgomery! That would be book 4 of the Anne series!
I will jump in whenever I can though!

  5. Looks like a great line-up! I have been wanting to try Dostoyevsky - I've heard he is not as difficult to read as one might think. Looks like I will have an incentive this year!

Thanks for mentioning the LIW Challenge!

  6. "minus perhaps August"--ha!

I ended up enjoying Crime and Punishment much more than I thought I would, so I am actually looking forward to it. I'm just hoping I can scrounge up the time. . .sigh.

Looks like a fun year! And I'm glad for the incentive to read another Wodehouse.

  8. This is a fantastic list! I definitely will be joining you for some of these months. You've chosen a few books that have been in my TBR pile for ages, and now I can finally read them!

I'll be joining you right away in January, as I have a couple LMM books that I want to read (including the book I won from you last year!). Just posted about your challenge on my blog this morning.

Very excited about this year of reading!

  9. HI, I am new to your blog. I saw a friend post about the book club challenge and thought it would be fun to join in. Just have to decide if I am going to share on my main blog or revive my long neglected book blog.
I just put The Blue Castle on hold at the library for the hubby to pick up tomorrow. I have never read anything from L.M. Montgomery besides Anne of Green Gables so this will be interesting.
    Thanks!

  11. There are definitely some great books on this list! I've been wanting to read something by H. Rider Haggard for several years now, so I think I'll jump in when June rolls around.
